Andrew Garfield Shuts Down Sam Altman's Story About 'Waving' During 'Artificial' Filming

The actor playing the OpenAI boss says they never actually met — and he's confused about where Altman's anecdote came from.

Andrew Garfield is setting the record straight: he and Sam Altman never crossed paths while making the upcoming film "Artificial," no matter what the OpenAI CEO might've said about it.

Garfield was asked to respond to Altman's claim that they waved at each other while cameras were rolling outside his place. The actor's response? Pure bewilderment. He flatly stated he had "never had any interaction" with Altman and admitted being "very confused" by the whole story. That's a pretty direct way of saying it didn't happen.

This is the kind of thing that becomes a thing — a biopic's subject doing promo and casually dropping a detail that, according to the person who actually played him, isn't real. Whether it's a genuine misremembering, Altman mixing up footage with reality, or just one of those weird moments where two people's versions of events don't align, it's awkward. Garfield's had to dig into the character enough already without having to untangle his co-star's memory.

The film's still coming, and now we're all waiting to see how the Altman character actually lands on screen.
