Atlas Sound Breaks 15-Year Silence With 'Octoberland'
Bradford Cox's ambient project returns after a decade and a half.

Bradford Cox's Atlas Sound project just dropped a new track called "Octoberland" — the first song we've heard from that side of his catalog since 2009. That's a long time to sit on something.
The track comes with a music video, giving the whole thing a full rollout treatment. For those who weren't deep in the Deerhunter universe back then, Atlas Sound was Cox's space to explore ambient and experimental production away from the guitar-driven indie rock that made him a name. The project had its own vibe — sparse, textural, sometimes unsettling in the best way.
Fifteen years is a lifetime in music. A lot has changed since Cox last touched the project, and obviously the man's been busy with Deerhunter and his own evolution as an artist. But the fact that he's returning to it now suggests there's still something in that well worth tapping.
Whether this is a one-off or the start of something bigger remains to be seen. Either way, it's good to hear him reaching back into that world.
