Beenie Man: Producer Politics Are Killing Dancehall's Riddim Game
The Godfather of Dancehall is calling out the politics strangling riddim culture.

Beenie Man isn't staying quiet about what he sees happening to dancehall's foundation. The legendary selector is pointing fingers at producer politics and artist cliques that are gatekeeping riddim beats — locking out talent based on who they're affiliated with instead of merit.
It's a real issue in the space. Riddim culture used to be about the beat: one sick instrumental, dozens of artists stacking verses, pushing each other to go harder. That's how you got classics. But when producers start playing sides and cutting out competitors, the whole ecosystem suffers. New voices don't get heard. The riddim gets recycled among the same roster. Innovation dies.
Beenie Man's been in this thing long enough to see the machine at work. He's watched riddim go global and come back changed — sometimes for the better, sometimes hollowed out. This is him essentially saying: y'all are losing the plot.
Whether the industry listens is another story. But when a vet speaks, people should pay attention.
