Big Thief Just Dropped a Surprise Triple Album (Sort Of)

Adrianne Lenker walked out at the Ryman and told 2,400 people to forget everything they thought they were seeing.

Big Thief pulled off one of those moves that only bands with real confidence can get away with. Instead of performing a normal set in Nashville, they essentially debuted an entire triple album called Horsepower — recorded back in May — across a three-hour show at the Ryman. No warning. No singles. Just Lenker, the band seated around a wooden table onstage, and a series of special guests working through the whole thing.

They kept the details close. No release date mentioned, no tracklist shared. What the fans got was a live premiere of something most hadn't heard, filmed and presumably heading out into the world later. It's the kind of move that requires either real artistry or real nerve—Big Thief's got both.

This is how you remind people that albums still matter, even in 2024. Not by talking about it. By just doing it.
