Bill Maher's Dolly Tribute Misses the Mark

Even legends deserve better than what some people said when Dolly Parton passed.

Bill Maher tried to pay respects to Dolly Parton but ended up saying something that didn't land right—so much so that people clocked him for it. The thing is, Maher wasn't the only one stumbling through a tribute that felt off. Ricky Schroder, who played Dolly's father in a couple of biopic films about her early years, also caught heat for how he chose to remember her.

Look, when someone like Dolly passes—a woman who gave decades to music, culture, and charity work—the bar for saying goodbye shouldn't be that high. But somehow it still is. You'd think people in the public eye would know by now that a tribute is about the person who's gone, not about making it weird or controversial.

The irony? Maher was actually trying to call out how media was covering her death. Fair criticism, maybe. But executing it with taste while honoring someone's legacy is like a basic skill check. Some folks just keep failing it.
