Billy Strings Takes One to the Dome, Comes Back With a Helmet

Folk-bluegrass hero gets clocked mid-set, responds the only way a real one can.

Billy Strings was mid-conversation at his show in Fishers, Indiana last Thursday when somebody in the crowd decided to test his reflexes. An object—the article doesn't specify what, but apparently it had some heat behind it—caught him in the head. Not ideal.

Instead of canceling or throwing a fit, Strings came back the next night for night two of his three-night run at the Fishers Event Center wearing protective headgear. That's the move. You take the L, you learn, you adapt. No drama, no excuses.

It's wild that this is even something artists have to account for in 2024. Between the weird stuff people throw, the general disrespect, and just the unpredictability of live crowds, performing has become its own kind of extreme sport. But that's the gig—literally and figuratively.
