Competitive Eater Tim Janus Dead at 49
The Amazing Race alum and eating contest legend has passed after a long health fight.

Tim Janus, the competitive eater who brought his appetite to reality TV, is gone. He died September 16th following an extended illness. He was 49.
Most people knew Janus from his 2018 run on The Amazing Race during season 30, where he tested his endurance in ways that went way beyond the eating competitions he'd built his name on. But in the competitive eating world, he was already a known figure—the kind of dude who'd shown up, put in the work, and earned respect in a space that doesn't hand out much of it.
The competitive eating circuit lost one of its veterans. Janus represented that old-school grind—before it all became TikTok clips and sponsorship deals. He actually competed, traveled to events, and did the work when the lights weren't on him.
Rest up, Tim.
