Emily Watson Ready to Go Deeper Into 'Dune: Prophecy' Season 2
The indie film legend is leveling up in the sci-fi epic.

Emily Watson spent her career building one of the most respected résumés in cinema—Lars von Trier projects, Robert Altman ensembles, the kind of work that gets festival nods and film studies classes talking. So when she signed on for HBO's Dune: Prophecy, it was a real shift. Full-scale sci-fi spectacle isn't where Watson made her name.
But heading into season two, she sounds genuinely fired up about where it's heading. Watson told Variety that the show's second run will bring "lots of new elements" to the table—basically, they're not just treading water. More importantly, she's talking about how this kind of sprawling franchise role gave her something different: a quest storyline, a real character journey with room to breathe. She frames it smartly—noting this is territory actresses don't always get to explore the way male actors do in these kinds of shows.
That's a real observation. Watson's got the credibility and the chops to carry a prestige project at any scale. If Dune: Prophecy is letting her swing for something bigger than what the indie world typically offers, and if the show's actually got surprises cooking for round two, this could be worth paying attention to.
