HBO's dropping A Killer Story, and it's not here to settle the score. Journalist Joe Sexton, director Matthew Galkin, and producer Joshua Levine got deep into the Dana Chandler case—a double murder that's been hanging over her for years—but they're not coming out the other side ready to sign a petition for innocence.

That's actually the move. Too many docs play pretend at objectivity while pushing an agenda hard. This one seems built different: they're laying out what they found, but they're not pretending the evidence lineup means innocent or guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. The crew apparently had access and time to dig where it matters, but they're letting viewers wrestle with the weight of it all.

For a case this heavy—a double homicide accusation—that kind of restraint from filmmakers actually hits different. It's easier to make a doc that points and says this person did it or this person was framed. Harder to present the facts and let people think. Whether that lands as fair or frustrating will probably depend who you ask, but at least they're not insulting your intelligence.
