Inde Navarrette Steals SNL's Halloween Show With That Penis Robot Sketch

Saturday Night Live's Halloween show started rough. The cold open was messy—Tom Hanks showing up as David S. Pumpkins, a Trump bit that landed flat, and Nicki Minaj as a MAGA extra didn't move the needle. Host Inde Navarrette opened with a solid monologue that took a shot at Shane Gillis, which got the crowd going, but you could feel the energy wasn't quite there yet.

Then "The Inventor's Wife" sketch dropped and things shifted. Without spoiling the whole thing, let's just say it centered on a very specific piece of hardware and the absurdity of what happens when you invent the wrong thing. It's the kind of dumb-funny that actually sticks with you—the kind SNL used to do better.

Navarrette's hosting debut wasn't perfect, but that sketch proved the show's still got it when the premise is right and the execution is tight. Sometimes one great bit is enough to make the whole night feel worth it.
