Inde Navarrette Takes a Shot at Shane Gillis on SNL, and It Lands
The breakout horror star didn't hold back during her first time hosting the show.
Inde Navarrette made her SNL hosting debut last night, and she came with something to say. During her monologue—which followed a Trump-heavy cold open that brought back Tom Hanks' iconic David S. Pumpkins character—the star of this year's breakout horror flick "Obsession" took a direct swipe at comedian Shane Gillis.
The moment was quick but it landed. Navarrette's got that internet moment momentum right now, and SNL clearly wanted to capitalize on her moment while the iron's hot. The horror film that put her on the map has gotten people talking all year, and hosting the show felt like the natural next move.
It's the kind of thing SNL monologues live for these days—topical, a little edgy, connected to what people are actually paying attention to. Whether the joke was personal heat or just a well-timed roast, it gave the show the kind of energy that makes folks actually tune in to these things. Navarrette's got momentum, and she's not afraid to use it.
