Netflix's Kyncl: The Music Industry Needs to Stop Fighting AI, Start Adapting
The man behind Netflix's Suno deal just told the old guard what they don't want to hear.

Robert Kyncl went on record this week with a take that's gonna make the major labels even madder: stop suing AI music tools and figure out how to work with them instead. Speaking on Semafor's Mixed Signals podcast, Netflix's content chief basically said resistance is futile—and frankly, bad business.
The move is bold considering UMG and Sony are literally in court right now over Suno's use of their catalogs for training data. But Kyncl's argument isn't complicated: embrace the tech or get left behind. He's betting that Netflix's partnership with Suno is a sign of where things are headed, whether the majors like it or not.
Here's the thing—he's not entirely wrong. The lawsuits might slow things down, but they probably won't kill AI music generation. The question is whether the labels want a seat at the table when that future arrives, or if they're just gonna keep swinging at ghosts in the courtroom. Kyncl's essentially saying the answer should be obvious.
Whether the industry listens is another story.
