Netflix's 'The Whisper Man' Brings Serial-Killer Twists to the Streaming Wars
De Niro, Scott, and Monaghan hunt a predator in James Ashcroft's adaptation of Alex North's crime novel.

Netflix just dropped The Whisper Man, a crime thriller that's got all the hallmarks of a page-turner you'd grab at the airport—except this one's got some serious star power attached. Robert De Niro, Adam Scott, and Michelle Monaghan lead the cast through a serial-killer procedural set in small-town New Jersey, chasing down a string of abducted boys.
Based on Alex North's novel, director James Ashcroft's film also stars Hamish Linklater and Owen Teague, rounding out an ensemble that knows how to work a tense narrative. The setup's familiar—missing kids, twisted perpetrator, lawmen digging for answers—but when you've got this kind of cast and a source material with real teeth, the execution matters.
It's the kind of dark, methodical drama that Netflix keeps banking on to keep people subscribed, trading spectacle for suspense and twisted psychology. Whether it lands or just goes through the motions remains the real question—but with De Niro and Scott on the case, at least the performances should pull weight.
