New Girl Almost Had a Completely Different Name, and Thank God It Didn't
The show that gave us the Douchebag Jar nearly premiered under a title that would've landed Schmidt in it immediately.

You know how sometimes a show is just right the way it turned out? New Girl is one of those joints. But the network almost rolled with "Chicks & Dicks" as the title—a name that honestly sounds like it walked straight out of a 2009 dive bar comedy special, not prime-time television.
Think about it: that title would've set a completely different tone before the first episode even aired. Instead, Fox went with "New Girl," which was clean, simple, and let the actual show—the writing, the characters, the chemistry—do the talking. And that's probably why the loft became iconic instead of feeling like a punchline.
It's wild how much hangs on a name. The Douchebag Jar might've never become a thing. Jess might've walked into a fundamentally different vibe. Sometimes the best decision a network makes isn't about the story itself—it's about getting out of the story's way.
