Nor'Easter Washes Out Day One of Ocean Calling Festival

Mother Nature had other plans for the Maryland beach festival.

A massive nor'easter forced Ocean Calling to pull the plug on its opening day, canceling a stacked first lineup that included Dave Matthews Band, Ludacris, O.A.R., Yellowcard, Shaggy, and Liz Phair. Strong winds and heavy rain made it unsafe to keep the show running, so organizers made the call to postpone rather than risk it.

Festival season is built on that gamble with the weather, but sometimes the house always wins. A storm system that serious doesn't negotiate—you either shut it down or you've got a real problem on your hands.

The question now is whether the festival can stack those sets back into the remaining days without losing the flow that made the lineup interesting in the first place. Ocean Calling had diversity on lock, mixing jam bands, hip-hop, rock, and reggae vibes. Cramming all that back in ain't simple.

Festival crews deal with this every summer, but it never stops being a headache for fans who traveled and artists who had to reschedule. At least they rescheduled instead of just canceling outright—that's something.
