Prateek Kuhad Steps Into Acting with 'Drowning'
The indie darling is trading the studio for the screen.
Prateek Kuhad's about to make a real move. The singer-songwriter—the guy who gave us "Cold/Mess" and "Kasoor"—is stepping into his first feature film with Drowning (also called Doobna), directed by Dar Gai.
Shot on location in New Delhi, this one's coming from Marginal MediaWorks, D36, and Jugaad. It's actually Marginal's first fiction feature produced out of South Asia, so there's some real investment behind this. The whole thing signals something we've been watching: artists getting comfortable moving between mediums, using one platform to test what else they can do.
Kuhad's been building a serious name since breaking through with intimate, honest songwriting. Whether that translates to acting is always the question with musicians jumping into film. But the fact that he's working with a real director and production setup—not just a vanity project—suggests he's taking this seriously.
