Resident Evil Stays Locked In at China Box Office While John Wick Crashes the Party
Horror reboot won't let go of the top spot in mainland China as a 2014 throwback sneaks into third.

Constantin Film and Sony Pictures' Resident Evil remake is holding court at the China box office. The video game adaptation grabbed its fourth straight weekend at number one, pulling in about $4.3 million over the Oct. 30–Nov. 1 frame. Since dropping during Golden Week back in October, this thing has quietly built momentum and isn't showing signs of slowing down yet.
Meanwhile, John Wick — yeah, the 2014 Keanu thriller — just debuted in third place. That's worth noting. A decade-old action flick still has enough pull to chart, which tells you something about how much love that franchise has accumulated. The competition isn't exactly packed with fresh blood trying to dethrone Resident Evil right now.
The Chinese market has proven it'll ride with a solid horror-action crossover, and Constantin's remake tapped into that. Whether it can stay on top or if something fresher pushes through next weekend is the real question.
