San Sebastian Locks In Heavy Hitters for 2026 Golden Shell

Jesse Eisenberg, Fred Cavayé, and Amanda Kernell among six new films joining the festival's main competition.

San Sebastián Film Festival just expanded its Official Selection for next year's 74th edition, and the lineup got a serious upgrade. Six fresh titles are now in the mix to compete for the Golden Shell, the festival's top prize—adding some real weight to what was already shaping up.

Jesse Eisenberg's bringing something new to the table, as are veteran directors Fred Cavayé and Amanda Kernell. Gabriel Martins rounds out the established names, but the festival's also giving a platform to debut features from Ah Biao and Tony Vahl. That's the move—mixing proven talent with new voices competing on the same stage.

These six join the 10 films already announced, so the Official Selection is getting solid and deep. San Sebastián's always been about quality over noise, and this batch says they're sticking to that. When a festival brings in that kind of range—from known directors to first-timers—you know they're serious about the competition.

The 74th edition is shaping up to be worth paying attention to.
