Scorsese Gets Behind the Espresso Cup for Daughter's Coffee Series

The legendary director trades his chair for the spotlight in a family affair with Lavazza.

Martin Scorsese just did something you don't see every day—he stepped in front of the camera for his daughter Francesca's directorial project. The five-episode branded series called Family Blend, made for coffee brand Lavazza, puts the iconic filmmaker opposite his daughter in what amounts to a pretty unique family collaboration.

This isn't some vanity thing either. Scorsese's been around long enough to know what works and what doesn't, so him actually committing to appear in something his daughter directed says something about the vision. The series also pulls in Jason Biggs and Adrien Brody for guest spots, which keeps the whole thing from feeling too inside-baseball.

It's the kind of move that tracks with where Scorsese's been lately—still working, still creating, but also more willing to experiment and step outside the usual lanes. A coffee brand commercial might seem like a left turn, but plenty of great artists have done interesting work in that space. The real story here is the family working together and actually making something worth watching instead of just cashing a check.
