Shudder's 'The Cycle' Flips the Werewolf Script With a Twist That'll Mess With Your Head
A horror series born from a wild what-if question is redefining what a creature feature can do emotionally.

Jordan Downey and Kevin Stewart started cooking up "The Cycle" by asking one question: what happens when a werewolf keeps transforming after it dies? That premise alone is a next-level concept that most horror writers would've buried in a notebook. Instead, these frequent collaborators actually built a whole series around it—and early word is saying the emotional weight of the thing caught even them off guard.
The show's landing on Shudder now, which makes sense; the streamer's been the home for horror that swings for something deeper than jump scares. "The Cycle" apparently takes the police procedural template and warps it through a genre lens in a way that feels fresh. Sometimes the best ideas come from asking "but what if?" and then actually committing to the answer.
Worth checking out if you're tired of creature features playing it safe. Downey and Stewart were working off energy from their 2018 film "The Head Hunter," so they know how to build weird mythology without losing the human core.
