Sound Designers Unite Against AI Theft With New Professional Sound Alliance
The people who craft the sounds behind your favorite records aren't taking the AI scraping quietly.

Sound designers and SFX library operators just banded together to form the Professional Sound Alliance—and they're making it clear: your sound is not free training data.
The move comes as AI companies and bad actors have been quietly harvesting audio without permission. The Alliance is calling out two specific problems: Data Piracy (scraping sound libraries to train AI models) and Sync Piracy (unauthorized use of copyrighted sounds). It's the same battle musicians, producers, and artists have been fighting, except this time it's the sound effects and production audio side taking the lead.
This matters. Sound design is a craft. Those libraries—built over years, sold to creators globally—are getting vacuumed up and fed into systems that spit out "free" alternatives, undercutting the people who actually built them. The Alliance's formation signals they're done asking nicely.
It's another front in the broader war over AI training and who profits from creative work. Whether they can actually stop the scraping remains to be seen, but at least someone's finally drawing a line in the sand on the audio side.
