Spotify's Charging $5 Now for Fans to Remix Tracks
The streaming giant wants artists and listeners to split a bag on AI remixes — but is anyone actually biting?

Spotify's been cooking up this AI remix move since May, and now it's actually here. The idea sounds good on paper: fans can hop into the platform and remix songs, and it costs five bucks a pop. The streaming service gets its cut, artists get theirs, and everyone's supposed to leave happy.
But here's the thing — charging people to play with AI tools on top of a subscription they already pay for feels like another layer of nickel-and-diming. The music industry's been obsessed with AI monetization lately, and while that energy makes sense from a label perspective, it's worth asking if regular listeners actually want to drop money to mess around with remixes when there's free production software all over the internet.
The real test is whether this becomes another Spotify feature people ignore or if it actually catches on. If artists see real money flow and fans feel like they're getting something worth the five dollars, cool. If it's another premium tier that sits dormant? We'll know soon enough.
