Spotify's Playlist Editors Are Finally Getting Names and Faces
Spotify is putting real humans in the spotlight with Playlist Notes, letting curators explain their picks track-by-track.

Spotify just made a move that could actually matter: letting playlist editors go public and explain why they put a song on the playlist. It's called Playlist Notes, and it's rolling out on some of the platform's biggest playlists — Today's Top Hits, RapCaviar, and others.
Each track can now get a little write-up from the curator who selected it. Could be the backstory on a record, could be why it hit different this week, could be whatever context the editor thinks a listener needs. The editors themselves are getting profiles too, so people can see who's actually curating these playlists instead of assuming an algorithm is doing all the work.
Look, this is a small thing on the surface. But it matters because for years, playlists have felt faceless and opaque — especially to artists trying to understand why they did or didn't make the cut. Putting human judgment front and center, with names attached, changes the conversation. It's also a way for Spotify to remind people that there are real ears making these decisions, not just code.
Whether this actually shifts how people perceive playlists or how artists get selected remains to be seen. But at least now you know who to credit — or blame.
