Taylor Sheridan Hit With 'Yellowstone' Theft Lawsuit
A writer's claiming the hit series jacked her 2016 pitch—and the studios behind it are named too.

Taylor Sheridan's got a legal problem on his hands. Writer Lauren J. Salkin just filed suit accusing him of straight-up stealing the concept for Yellowstone—one of the biggest shows on TV—from a pitch she shopped back in 2016. That's a serious allegation, and it's not just Sheridan in the hot seat. 101 Studios, Paramount, and Elevate Entertainment are all named as defendants in the lawsuit.
Sheridan's camp, along with the studios involved, hasn't said anything publicly yet. No statements, no denials—just radio silence on Variety's request for comment. That's standard legal procedure, sure, but it's the kind of move that tends to get people talking anyway.
This is the type of case that could get messy fast. Yellowstone made serious money and spawned a whole universe of spinoffs. If there's real evidence Salkin's pitch landed on the right desks and the show that came years later bears resemblance, discovery could unearth some uncomfortable receipts. Hollywood's done bigger IP battles before, but they usually don't play out this publicly from jump.
