Todd Rundgren Goes In on Taylor Swift, Gets the Predictable Reaction

Rock legend Todd Rundgren decided 2024 was the year to take shots at Taylor Swift's entire existence.

Look, Todd Rundgren is a legit innovator—his production work, his experiments, his catalog all matter. But sometimes legends forget that saying wild stuff just to get a rise out of people ain't the same as making a point.

In a recent interview, Rundgren went hard, saying Swift "doesn't do anything particularly great" and questioning her abilities as a singer, songwriter, and dancer. Basically: she just exists and people buy it.

Here's the thing though. Swift might not be your taste—and that's totally fair—but dismissing what she's built and her actual skill set as a musician just sounds like an old head who's mad that the culture moved. You can critique her songwriting without erasing it. You can say her era doesn't move you without pretending she's talentless.

Rundgren's got the resume to back strong opinions. But this read landed more like gatekeeping than analysis, and that's a weak look no matter who you are in this industry.
