Warner Music CEO Says Netflix Needs to Get Into the Music Game
One major label exec thinks the streaming giant is sleeping on a whole revenue lane.

Netflix's CEO Robert Kyncl—who came over from YouTube—is out here saying the obvious: Netflix should be streaming music. And yeah, he runs Warner Music Group, so take that with a grain of salt. But the argument's not crazy.
Right now Netflix is basically leaving money on the table. You got Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music all eating—why wouldn't a platform that already has tens of millions of subscribers want to add a music tier? The infrastructure's there. The user base is there. You could bundle it, keep people locked in longer, maybe even break into markets where music streaming is the entry point instead of film and TV.
The real question is whether Netflix actually wants to wade into the music licensing game. It's brutal. You're fighting Spotify and Apple who've already got the deals locked down tight, the playlists built, the culture. And you're basically guaranteeing smaller per-stream payouts to artists because the royalty split gets even messier.
Still—if the big labels are suggesting it? They probably see a lane. Whether Netflix has the appetite to chase it is another story.
