Danny McBride's Taking Over G.I. Joe — Bradley Cooper Locked In as Duke
Hollywood's got a new action franchise play, and it's weirder than you'd expect.

Danny McBride is steering a G.I. Joe movie for Paramount, and Bradley Cooper's coming along for the ride as Duke. That's the kind of left-turn casting that makes you sit up — McBride's built a lane doing comedy with edge and grit, so him helming a military-action property is either genius or a total wildcard. Could go either way, honestly.
Cooper's got the chops to play it straight in an action role, but teaming him with McBride's sensibility? That's less "by-the-book soldier movie" and more "we're gonna do something unexpected with this IP." Paramount's betting on that vision hard enough to lock it down for a 2028 release.
G.I. Joe's had its ups and downs on screen — the last couple films didn't exactly move the needle. So maybe what the franchise needed was someone willing to flip the script instead of just reload it. McBride doesn't do safe, and that could be exactly what's needed to make people actually care about this one.
