Mubi Locks In Manuela Martelli's 'The Meltdown' for Global Stream
Chilean filmmaker's Cannes-premiered drama headed to the platform this year.

Mubi is bringing Manuela Martelli's "The Meltdown" ("El Deshielo") to its global audience later this year, snagging the distribution rights to the Chilean director's latest drama. The film already made waves at Cannes earlier this year in the Un Certain Regard sidebar—the festival's proving ground for bold, unconventional work—and it's about to get the festival circuit treatment again at San Sebastian's Horizontes Latinos strand before landing on the platform.
Martelli, who made noise with "Chile'76," is building a reputation for unflinching character studies. "The Meltdown" is her latest swing at the form, and having it roll through San Sebastian before hitting Mubi gives the film the kind of festival credibility and word-of-mouth that digital platforms are increasingly smart about courting. This is exactly the kind of acquisition that defines Mubi's play: prestige independent cinema that's already proven itself on the festival circuit, now getting a second life for the streaming faithful.
Expect this one to land before the year's out.
