That Thang is the party record in our catalog: a body song with a chant for a hook, "that thang, thang, thang," built so a whole room can sing it back by the second chorus. I wanted it to feel like a club night in 1998, not another slow jam. It cost time and taste: dozens of versions thrown out for every one we kept, late nights after work and family, and reworking the hook until it felt like 1998. It became one of our most played songs, and StayOnBeat Live rated it 10 out of 10.
Where it started
Velvet Union started with me, Minh, the founder of Silk Audio Music. I came up on 90s and 2000s R&B, the four-part harmony groups and the late-night radio slow jams, and that sound never left me. Years later, using AI as an assistance tool, one person could do what used to take a full studio. I write and shape every song, pick every take, and built the four voices of the group (Malik Saint, DeVaughn Hale, Treyven Cole and Rael Avante) so it could sound like the groups I grew up on. It started as Silk Union and became Velvet Union in September 2025.
The come-up
The road here wasn't clean. Time. I build this alongside running my other businesses and raising three daughters, so every song gets made in the hours that are left over. The other one is people writing off new tools in music before they have heard a note. I use AI as an assistance tool, but every song comes from a real ear and real taste, so I let the songs make the argument.

What they want you to know
That grown-folks R&B never went anywhere. If you miss the slow jams that played after midnight, the harmonies, the "girl" and "baby," the songs you could play for someone across the room, Velvet Union is made for you. Press play, turn the lights down, and let it feel like 1998 again.
What's next
"Come Home," our new holiday single, drops Friday, October 30. Our holiday album "Twelve Nights" follows on streaming Friday, November 13, with the full album on YouTube on Thanksgiving Eve. New songs and Shorts go up every week on youtube.com/@silkaudiomusic, and Silk FM, our late-night R&B radio show, runs new episodes there too. The goal is to become the home for 90s and 2000s style R&B made today.
