Warner Music Doubles Back on Zebralution, Reclaiming European Foothold
WMG just reacquired a piece of the digital distributor it let go six years ago.

Warner Music is stepping back into Zebralution, the German distribution platform it sold off back in 2017. This time around, the Warners are buying back a stake—a move that signals they want tighter control over how their catalog moves through Europe's digital channels.
Zebralution carved out a name for itself early on, handling not just music but audiobooks too. When WMG initially let it go, the distributor kept doing its thing as an independent player. Now, with fresh resources and renewed backing from the major, it's positioned to punch harder in a market where streaming dominance and artist rights stay locked in constant negotiation.
The play makes sense: owning pieces of the supply chain means fewer middlemen taking cuts and more direct relationships with platforms and creators. Europe's always been a testing ground for bold music business moves, and this one shows the majors still see value in owning their infrastructure rather than just licensing through third parties.
Could be a sign WMG's rethinking how it controls distribution across the continent. Worth watching to see if the other majors follow suit.
